THE TALE OF EKSU STUDENTS- Written by Afolayan P.E

Education is the best legacy...Education is the key...Knowledge is
power...Go to school and be cool.....

This was the phrases that brought about each an every student to the
land of EKSU. Never a mistake and by chance, but to this extent
EKSUites are finding it difficult to get the real dividend of
EDUCATION.
Should we start from dilapidated states of learning environment?
Inadequacy in the structures available for students to receive primary
aim. We the ever ready students to get knowledge are not really
complaining of these above listed condition... I'm I reasoning in the
direction of my fellow students at all? Hooooops...the worst of them
all are the regular sit at hostel/home occurrences which ranges from
school merging that involves the amalgamation of threesome
universities in the land of Ekiti. The University of Education,
Ikere-Ekiti, University of Science and Technology, Ifaki-Ekiti and
University of Ado-Ekiti by the then governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi's
Administration. This brought students of diverse field in these
schools to come under one umbrella. In this course, waiting has to
occur as these schools run different calendar before the amalgamation
came into place. Therefore, one school had to wait for the other for
uniformity as the schools became Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti
(EKSU).

After having EKSU and students came together, the story continued as
the new administration led by Professor Oladipo Aina began different
strategies and scopes to make things rosy and comfortable for both
staff, students and the state in general.
In the land of EKSU, the challenges facing the school has been traced
to Ekiti State political instability, School fees upping and downing,
Staff salary payments and of course students' protests and agitations.
The political instability in Ekiti State has marred and broken
calendars of academic semesters and sessions in the school. This is
because, as one government increases the FEES, another does reduces
it. Having this in place has caused the running of the school a lot
and this is still happening till now. In 2012, the students protested
the murder of one of the students in which the students claimed the
death occurred through one of the government's official car. Well,
things were destroyed causing the close down of the school for months.
The opening of the school resulted in reparation fee payment.
So far so good timeless monetary issues has made the students of EKSU
to be living in "NO TIME FRAME FOR GRADUATION". This is because, alot
of students have stayed more than the years they are supposed to stay.
Making highest percentage of the students leading their lives with no
self planning and calendar of their own as the break in transmission
of the school's calendar has killed their calendar and even dreams.
This agony has been worrisome and disheartening...
