Kogi Assembly Approves Achuba as Deputy Governor
Kogi State House of Assembly has approved the nomination of Mr. Simon Achuba as deputy governor. Speaker of House, Alhaji Momoh-Jimoh Lawal, who disclosed this yesterday, said the deputy governor was screened by a Committee of the Whole House after his name was forwarded by Governor Yahaya Bello. Achuba would replace Abiodun Faleke who refused to be deputy to Bello, following the death of Abubakar Audu. Lawal noted that the approval of Achuba who only defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All progressives Congress, APC, in May, 2015 was in a bid not to allow vacuum in the engine of governance of the state. Achuba who was a twotime member of the state House of Assembly between 1999 and 2007, and at a time deputy speaker, was eventually asked to "Take a Bow and Go," following submissions of members that as a former member, there was no need to subject him to rigorous screening. Achuba was born on July 13, 1964, and was the immediate past chairman of Kogi State Environmental Protection Board, before he defected to the APC. The House also approved a list of 21 nominees for appointment as special advisers to the governor. Lawal added that the request was contained in a separate letter from the governor, stating that "in my capacity as the Executive Governor of Kogi State, I wish to apply for the approval of 21 special advisers to assist me in the running of the state." The new deputy governor was sworn in at the banquet hall of Government House yesterday.
