REVEALED: Buhari Makes U-Turn, Says He Won’t Pay N5000 Stipend Promised to Unemployed

Image
ABUJA - In what appears to be a major U-turn from what his campaign promises before the 2015 presidential election, president Mohammadu Buhari has said he would not pay the N5000 stipend he promised to unemployed youth in the country. The president made the remarks at the weekend while on the visit in Middle East. He said it was wise to use a collation of the funds to put up infrastructures and empower them through agriculture for than to give out monies. He said: "This largesse N5,000 for the unemployed, I have got a slightly different priority. I would rather do the infrastructure, the school and correct them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able bodied person can go and get work instead of giving 5,000, N5,000 to those who don't work." It will be recalled that All Progressives Congress, APC had during its campaign supported the promise of paying N5,000 as monthly stipend to the most vulnerable in the country.

FOOTBALL: Nigerian Football is Dead - Austin Jay Jay Okocha

Image
Former Super Eagles skipper Austin Jay Jay Okocha believes that Nigerian football has reached its limits and is 'now dead'. Okocha who captained Nigeria from 2002 to 2006 gave his damning verdict after watching the Super Eagles succumb to a humiliating defeat to Sudan in their 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. Nigeria's hopes of making the tournament in Morocco was left hanging in the balance after losing 1-0 in Khartoum on Saturday, which has left them bottom of their group. However,Okocha has refused to blame Nigeria's precarious position on Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi,or the players. The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder harped on Nigeria's inability to evolve with the changing trends in the world. "Anyone that blames Keshi or the boys is short sighted. Our football is long dead and gone. This is just the confirmation" Okocha wrote on his official twitter page. Unless a miracle happens,Nigeria might likely not qualify for the 2015 Natio...

He gave as an excuse that his pen'is had been consecrated with "divine semen of the Holy Spirit...

King will be spared the hangman's noose and "return to join us." The self-styled cleric was sentenced to death in 2007 for the burning to death of a member of his church in 2006. He appealed the judgment and lost before the apex court sealed his fate last Friday. But yesterday during the first church service after the Supreme Court decision at the Lagos headquarters at Ajao Estate, off the Murtala Muhammad Airport Road, Pastor Ifeanyi King, who preached said: "Our G.O. (General Overseer) the most holiness, Rev King, is coming back. He said he would come back and we believe the words of his mouth. We believe his report that he is coming back. Everything happening now we know is t...

Governors That Can’t Pay Salaries Should Resign – Fayose

Image
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, yesterday distanced himself from the decision of the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) to cut staff strength of the public service as a way out of the current economic challenges facing the nation. Governor Fayose said that the decision could not have represented the collective will of the NGF, alleging that: "It could at best be described as an agenda of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its central government, which appears to be clueless about revamping the Nigerian economy." Fayose, who stated categorically that Ekiti State should be counted out of such arrangement, insisted; "I like to restate that workers remain critical stakeholders in governance in Nigeria and as such, their rights and privileges must be protected and guaranteed at all times in the spirit and letters of the Nigerian Constitution, particularly the fundamental objectives and directive principles of state policy. "It's painful that a Government...

FOREIGN: Ghana’s President, John Mahama Is A “Disgrace” To Africa – President Robert Mugabe

Image
Mahama is a disgrace to Ghana and Africa – Robert Mugabe.. The AU chairman made these comments in relation to the hasty decision Ghana's President took in sympathizing with the French over the recent rebel attacks which led to a massacre. "Mahama did little or nothing as an Ecowas chairman in helping curb the rebellion situation in Nigeria and the rest of African countries suffering in the hands of rebels on this continent. And the next thing I hear is Mahama is up condemning French attacks while he has not started or finished the attacks on his own personality for the mess he has done to his country and people. I want that man to first address his own problems before extending hands. Or is it one of his usual means of deceiving the ignorant whites for loans which he never uses to build anything for his people but spend on himself and sympathizers. In fact that man is a disgrace to his people and Africa".

The Nobel laureate made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja. According to Soyinka, the conference became necessary to enable experts diagnose the problems currently facing the country and make necessary recommendations for government to get the economy out of the woods. He said: "I agree with those who say the economy is bad. It is obvious and it is so bad. I think the Presidency should call an emergency economic conference where experts will be enlightened. "We really need an emergency economic conference, bringing experts together to march the nation forward. I think the economy is not encouraging. Quite frankly, I thin...

AN OPEN LETTER TO NIGERIAN YOUTHS

Image
My fellow Youngs: When I think about the difficulties young Nigerians face in their everyday lives, I just imagine how much they cope with everyday pressure of surviving in a nation punished by corruption, where work is scarce and many that work do so with low pay. It must be an unbearable pressure. When you compare the rate of job offers today to decades ago, there is a clear difference. Then, they were practically pursued around for jobs. Today, it is no more the same. Time has changed. The world has moved on led by goal getters. We must catch up with the rest of the world immediately. It certainly will take many years of hard work, coordinated efforts to be able to fix the problems we face today as a people. A nation with a good number of intelligent youth scattered across the country cannot be lacking in government circles. We have been taken over by silliness, laziness, lack of thinking, pettiness, ripping ourselves apart on Social media that we have forgotten entirely that we...

MONARCHICAL VIEW:How Cocoa Can Restore Our Fortune--Ooni of Ife

Image
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has said cocoa and other agricultural produce can take Nigeria out of the woods. He spoke with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The Ooni said: "I am working with the minister of Agriculture. We have assembled over 200,000 youths within 30 days. We are encouraging them to go back to the farm. "Something happened in Nigeria that we did not notice. Last October, crude oil price started going down astronomically but cocoa price went up over 100 per cent and nobody noticed it. "Nigeria, in the early 1930s and 1940s, was the largest exporter of cocoa in the world and the farmlands are still there. ''So what we have done now is another positive indicator for the nation's economy. "We have assembled youths and we are giving them five acres per youth so that they will go back to the farm. "The Federal Government is supporting us...

EDUCATION: LASU defeats Indian university in international law contest

Image
The faculty of law, Lagos State University (LASU), excelled in India, outwitting the host of the 8th edition of the Gujarat National Law University International Moot Court Competition on international trade law (GIMC) 2016. Speaking to TheCable, Babalola said it was a great feeling of success to have defeated a law-focused university, revered by its neighbours. "It was a great feeling of success because neighbouring universities had talked about the expertise of the school, bearing in mind the specialization of the college in law, which is evident in their laurels arcade situated at the schools administrative building," he said. GIMC is India's only moot court competition based on international trade l...

SPORTS: BAYERN WOULD MESS UP MESSI’S PENALTY LIKE HENRY & PIRES DID!----Thiago

Image
The playmaker, who once lined up alongside the Barcelona star at Camp Nou, admits Bayern Munich have not discussed the possibility of repeating the Argentine's spot-kick trick Bayern Munich's stars have lauded the creativity of Lionel Messi's recent penalty assist, though Thiago says they will need to practice a lot if they want to pull it off themselves. The Barcelona star rolled the ball to Luis Suarez from the penalty spot against Celta Vigo on Sunday, rather than shooting himself, with the trick dividing fans and pundits over whether it was genius or disrespectful. But former team-mate Thiago is in no doubt about the skill involved, and fears he and his Bayern team-mates would repeat Thierry Henry and Robert Pires' fumbled effort back in 2005 if they were to attempt it. "That is part of football," Thiago told reporters. "You can do tricks or you can do hard tackles. But with tackles nobody is complaining. If some people have a problem with that, t...

FOOTBALL: Outstanding L. Messi Scores From Behind th Post

Image
Lionel Messi has became famed for scoring seemingly impossible goals on the football field, but it seems his gift isn't limited to the pitch. Barcelona's Twitter feed shared a short video of the Argentine star scoring an improbable goal during a kick-about in a training session with his team-mates. The clip is filmed at Barcelona's training ground where the players are enjoying a light-hearted kick-around with visiting Italian musician, Eros Ramazzotti. After some playful keepy ups, the singer challenges Messi to put the ball into the back of the net from their position 25 yards behind the goal. The playmaker duly obliges by stroking the ball on a near perfect arch, bouncing just before the near post before spinning sideways into the back of the net.

Speaking to newsmen, Commanding Officer, 14 Brigade Ohafia, Brigadier General Lawrence Fejokwu, who stated this at 144 Battalion, Asa, Ukwa West council area, noted that Aba had become a hot spot because of the activities of the IPOB and MASSOB agitating for the actualization of a sovereign state of Biafra, as well as the resurgence of kidnapping and sundry crimes, stressing that all hands should be on deck to tackle the trend. AN EYE FOR AN EYE: Ghana Bans Importation of Goods From Nigeria......

Image
Ghana has prohibited some items from entry into its domain, following Nigeria's foot steps that restricted 41 items from access to foreign exchange. Ghana however has placed a ban on some goods from being imported into the country. Ghanaian Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah stated yesterday that Ghana and Nigeria are said to account for some 68 per cent of the ECOWAS region's Gross Domestic Product. Nigeria accounts for almost 10 per cent of Ghana's foreign trade volume, whereas Ghana is listed as the 9th largest trade partner to Nigeria. Favourite investment hub In spite of the difficulties, Ghana remains Nigeria's largest trade partner and favourite investment hub in the West Africa sub-region, as Ghana imports the largest share of all Nigerian oil exports in the West African sub-region. While 'bagged cement' is on Nigeria's prohibition list, Dangote Cement brings in and bags some 750,000 tonnes of cement a year for the Ghanaian m...

Lai Mohammed in Review: Was He Actually the man for the job?

Image
By OCHEREOME NNANNA IN 1996 when the first phase of the Liberian civil war was ending, one of the warlords, Brigadier General Yormie Johnson (who personally killed former dictator, the late President Samuel Doe) wrote a pamphlet where he recorded his random musings about the war and his philosophical attitudes to some issues connected thereto. He titled the book: The Gun That Liberates Should Not Rule. His argument is that a liberator's role is to remove the problem and then, give way to those who have the capacity to correct it. If the gun that liberates mounts the throne, it will turn the liberator into a dictator. While most of the warlords who drove away Doe from power (such as Charles Taylor) jostled for leadership, Johnson simply came to Lagos to cool his heels, perhaps, his own way of walking his talk. His postulations were later proved right, because Charles Taylor went on to become an even deadlier dictator than Doe and today answers for his crimes at the Hague. Howeve...

Image

"Please whosoever makes any transaction with Northside Entertainment or Jude Okoye on Psquare's behalf does so at their own risk," Peter warned. Peter's responses came after Jude had taken to his twitter page to urge their fans to pray for Peter, noting that, "He's been going through a lot lately." In the same vein, Peter fired back at Jude, as he wrote, "You said I need Prayers! Bro you need GOD!" He then went on to say "Some ask why on social media. Do I have a choice! I...

#ATTACK: Why Buhari Lacks Solution to Nigeria’s Dwindling Economy – Fayose

Image
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has raised the alarm over the imminent collapse of the county's economy, saying the President Muhammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) government was yet to show any sign that it has any solution to the dwindling economy. The governor, who called on Nigerians to prevail on President Buhari to stay at home and govern the country, said it was the height of insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians that the President, who just returned from trips to France and United Kingdom will again be traveling to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar from February 20 to 27, spending seven days out of Nigeria in what they called "three-nation tour." Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor lamented the lack of a clear cut economic direction from the Federal Government, saying, "It is worrisome that President Buhari does not have any economic team and there is no policy direc...
