Ghana Presidential Election: Fayose warns Ghanaians Against Accepting Change

Image
As the December 7 presidential election in Ghana draws near, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has counselled the people of Ghana to be mindful of making the same mistake made by Nigerians in the 2015 presidential election by voting for change, which has brought hunger, sufferings and economic recession to the country, such that even the entire West African sub-region is being affected. He said "by buying into the All Progressives Congress (APC) message of change, Nigerians are now facing a kind of hunger and suffering never experienced in the country in the last 30 years and Ghanaians must not fall into that kind of trap." Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday that Governor Ayodele Fayose made this call while playing host to some men of God from Ghana on Saturday. The governor said; "Ghanaians should not succumb to the deceit of the opposition party that are call...

Supreme Court’s intervention ‘ll resolve crisis — PDP

Image
THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State has said that the intervention of the Supreme Court in the party's governorship ticket dispute would hasten the process of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede reclaiming the ticket from Mr.Jimoh Ibrahim. Publicity Secretary of the party, Banji Okunomo, said the intervention of the apex court would hasten the administration of justice. "The PDP believes strongly in the ability of the judiciary to give the matter involving Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, PDP, INEC, Biyi Poroye and eight others, appropriate legal interpretation and adjudication. The PDP is already aware of the totality of tactics deployed by self-imposed candidate – Mr Jimoh Ibrahim to stall justice and frustrate the efforts of the Court of Appeal to hear and decide the appeals before it,'' he said. Okunomo continued: "It has become glaring that the intention of Jimoh is to frustrate Jegede in order to provide a soft landing for the All Progressives Congress, APC in the electio...

Death rumour, constitutionality and a governor’s absence in Kogi State

Image
The fact that Kogi State thrives in controversies and rumours of negative reports about its leaders came to the fore once again with speculations trailing the recent unannounced trip of Governor Yahaya Bello, outside the country. With the trip shrouded in mystery, the rumour mill, which for some time has been inactive, came alive with speculations that the governor had died in a German hospital. He was said to have collapsed in Abuja and rushed abroad with some of his cabinet members including his personal physician. The rumour, mostly peddled by scaremongers, did not come as a surprise judging from the fact that a similar one was also peddled during a foreign trip embarked upon by his predecessor, Idris Wada, towards the last year of his tenure. For a state noted for elevating strange events to a level of public consciousness, the rumour refused to die even after attempts were made to clarify the situation from the governor's media team. In the previous case of Wada, his deputy,...

Presidency raises alarm over looming famine

Image
ABUJA—The current economic recession may linger for a while as the Presidency yesterday raised alarm about imminent food shortages that might eventually lead to famine in the country starting from January next year. This, it stated, was consequent upon an aggressive exportation of grains to foreign countries. Describing Nigeria as Africa's largest producer of cereals and grains at the moment, the Presidency said that no fewer than 500 trucks of grains depart the country every week, following a huge demand in the global market that is targeting the country's surplus production. The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, disclosed this during an interview with Pyramid Radio in Kano. He said the "huge demand for our grains in the global market is creating an excellent environment for the mindless export of Nigerian grains across our borders and unless this is curtailed, Nigerian markets will be bereft of food by Ja...

SPORT: Gernot Rohr praises skipper John Obi Mikel

Image
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr believes beating strongly fancied Algeria has set his team up to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. With only one qualifier from each group, Nigeria landed what most pundits believed to be the toughest, in Group B alongside Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia. Nigeria ensured they remain top of the group and in prime position for Russia with six points from six after Saturday's 3-1 home win. "It's still a long way to go but we're on the right path," said the 63-year-old German Rohr, who posted his third straight win in charge of Nigeria. "We had a great first half, but the second half was difficult," he said. "We suffered in the second half, but the players were not nervous, they are professional. We played on the counter-attack when it became 2-1 and we got our third goal from a fast break. "We defended well. We were organised against Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani and we largely kept them quiet." Rohr praised skipper Jo...

BREAKING: Trump Vows to Immediately Deport Up to Three Million Immigrants

Image
Donald Trump will keep his vow to deport millions of undocumented migrants from the United States, he said in an interview to be broadcast Sunday, saying as many as three million could be removed after he takes office. What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably two million, it could be even three million — we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate," Trump said in an excerpt released ahead of broadcast by CBS's 60 Minutes program. The billionaire real estate baron made security at the US-Mexico border a central plank of his insurgent presidential campaign, which resulted in last Tuesday's shock election victory against his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Trump added that the barrier to be erected on the US border with Mexico may not consist entirely of brick and mortar, but that fencing could be used in some areas. "There could be...

How Nigeria vs Algeria sparked MMM trend

Image
Super Eagles 3-1 win over Algeria in the World Cup qualifying match has sparked an "MMM" trend on twitter with over 6,000 tweets as at the time of this report. MMM was derived from the names of the Nigerian goal scorers in the qualifier, Moses Mikel Moses (MMM) However, the trend has gone beyond the football match to celebrate an online platform: Mavrodi Mundial Movement (MMM) which is gaining wide popularity among Nigerians. The platform is said to yield 30% of donations made after 30 days and many Nigerians have embraced it in the wake of the economic recession and in the quest for financial freedom. However, the platform has been classified by the CBN and SEC as a ponzi scheme that Nigerians should be wary of while the House of Representatives had ordered its investigation. The trends following the football match however suggest that the call by the financial regulators as well as the lawmakers may have fallen on deaf ears.

Clinton Blames FBI’s Director for her Defeat

Image
Former Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton has blamed the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Director James Comey for her defeat in Tuesday's presidential election. Clinton said in a conference call with her top campaign donors on Saturday that Trump was able to seize on both of Comey's statements and used them to attack her, according to two participants on the call. According to the participants who were on the call, Clinton told her supporters on Saturday that her team had drafted a memo that looked at the changing opinion polls leading up to the election and that the letter from Comey proved to be a turning point. The memo prepared by Clinton's campaign, a copy of which was seen by Reuters, said voters who decided which candidate to support in the last week were more likely to support Trump than Clinton. "In the end, late breaking developments in the race proved one hurdle too many for us to overcome," the memo concluded. Clinton was pr...

Oritse Femi gets beaten to a pulp at Quillox for stabbing a bouncer!

Image
Yesterday at Quillox, Oritse Femi bought another man's fight and was beaten to a pulp by bouncers for interfering. According to source, another artiste, Rock Steady had been prevented by bouncers from entering a section of the bar. Oritse Femi who was reportedly already seated and enjoying himself went out after noticing the scene being created. Rather than resolve the issue amicably, the self proclaimed Fela's Protégé got to the scene, slapped and stabbed one of the bouncers. The bouncers got angry, took him out of the club and beat him to a pulp! Guess being a musician doesn't exempt you from getting your clapback. Oritse Femi who was held for a while was later released to go treat himself. But now we know that "Okpolo eye, no be open eye!"
