Wednesday 8th July 2015 would rank amongst the days I would never forget in life. The day started brightly, by my timetable, I should have a lecture by 8:00 am, so I rushed to school so I won't miss the lecture. I got to class around 7:40am, sat in class and was expecting the lecturer. President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mrs Amina Bala Zakari as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the exit of Prof. Attahiru Jega. Jega's five-year tenure ended on Tuesday. Mozambique has legalized homosexuality on Monday when a new penal code came into force that swept away old Portuguese colonial laws, in a victory for campaigners for gay rights in Africa. The old code, dating back to 1886, targeted anyone "who habitually engages in vices against nature", but no known prosecutions were brought after Mozambique became independent in 1975. Breaking the law was theoretically punishable by up to three years of hard labour. Dercio Tsandzana, an influential blogger and activist, said there had been no public discussion of homosexual rights.
